Optical transmission with high dynamic range
Hungary - Budapest-based LaserBit Communications Corp, an Anglo-American-Hungarian joint-venture, has received a US$6inillion capital injection from Intel Capital, Sandier Capital and 3TS (a regional fund of3i, Technologieholding and SITRA) for continued design, development and manufacture of high-speed wireless optical data-transmission systems.
The company's objective has been to provide the Telecom industry with a transmission system with very high dynamic range.
The dynamic range of the Laserbit equipment is Pdi = 10 log(Pmin/Pmax) where Pdi can be equal to 65dB. A feature of the equipment is its automatic power control to compensate high fog, snow and rain attenuations to the Pdi level.
Currently, transmission speeds for the LaserBit range of IR optical laser transmission systems range from 1.544Mbit/s (T1) to 155Mbit/s (ATM), including the 10Mbit/s and 100Mbit/s Ethernet protocol. For the Telecom industry LaserBit's E and T series are available with multiplexing equipment. The company's multiplexer and converter range includes E1/T1, E2/T2 and E3/T3.
